Terrace Apartments History

The Terrace Apartments were built in the late 1920’s when Macon was growing fast and the money was flowing. The Great Depression was just around the corner, but the roaring 20’s was about celebrating a new peace time era and having a good time.

This building, as home to middle Georgia’s most stylish and upscale people, had all the latest conveniences, such as a refrigerator for every apartment, elevators, tile baths with a circulating hotel type hot water system, steam heat, and even an incinerator in the basement for burning garbage. The building still has all these things, including the incinerator in the basement. It is too heavy to move but its use is now outlawed!

The Terraces renovation has won awards from Newtown Macon and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
